SSA Debate Club

The club was established in 2006.

Debate club is very popular among KPI students. Debate club is an opportunity to express your own opinion about actual problems of political, social and economical life of Ukraine and rest of the world. During taking part in interesting and challenging discussions, debaters develop their oratory abilities, improve an ability to express thoughts in a logical and convincing way. Also participants learn how to listen to others' opinions and understand it well.

So what are that debate things about? Debates are the role intellectual challenges, during which one team is proving a thesis and the other team is rejecting it. Discussion requires strong preparation and is happening according to the fixed rules. Debates' aim is not to work out a single opinion but to observe a problem from different points of view.

Participance in competition of debates. The club is cooperate with Kiev City Debate League and it takes part in Ukrainian and World wide debate competitions. The team of the club received trophies in tourneys “Keiv spring”, “Keiv Open”, “Fire”, “Two capitals competition” etc.

Topic of debates Topics of debates are various: problems in science and education, politics and show business, sports and leisure, society and family and others. Every month special English debate meeting is happening.

Club format. Debate's format is British parliament debates. This format implements discussion in the British parliament, that's why teams are called Government and Opposition and the judge is called Speaker of the House. This kind of debates is an official for the World's and Europe's Championships. Also most of the debate clubs in Ukraine are using this format.
